Volunteer!

Dear Volunteer:

On behalf of Neighbors in Need and Neighborhood Youth Alliance, we are pleased to welcome you as a volunteer for our program.  These programs are ministry outreach efforts of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood, Washington.

Neighborhood Youth Alliance (NYA) program provides weekly support to homeless and underprivileged children to stay and succeed in school in the Edmonds School District.  NYA is held in conjunction with Neighbors in Need, Trinity’s homeless outreach program in the Edmonds-Lynnwood area.  The Neighbors in Need program welcomes an average of 130 guests each Saturday to receive bus vouchers, a hot meal, shower vouchers, clothing, toiletries and non-perishable food items, encouragement and community.

Many of our kids are well behind their peers scholastically and NYA volunteers partner with parents and caregivers to help bridge between home and school support in literacy and math.  In addition to partnership with the Family Support Center of Snohomish County, NYA is supported by 8 local churches and mosque, Volunteers of America, the Edmonds School District, PEMCO and United Way for implementation of this outreach program.  Each Saturday, NYA provides age-appropriate educational stations and formal tutoring for 25-35 children ages 3 to 15, including a new computer lab sponsored by PEMCO.

Neighbors in Need has served the Edmonds-Lynnwood area for four (4) years and NYA started in 2010.  In this time, we experienced a shift in our client base from predominately single homeless men to women with children.  We have worked with vulnerable families during these years, some of which have been involved with the children’s welfare system under the State of Washington. We now serve a much more diverse community in culture, age and language.  We find a growing number of guests seeking help who are marginally housed.  They struggle to maintain economic self-sufficiency and teeter between housing and homelessness.  We recognize our strength in serving a growing client base is based upon our partnering with other organizations and the need for integrated support services.

Our respective organizations each perform an important role in the collective delivery of support services for the children and their families in our community.  We know you will be an important part of this service to our neighbors who indeed are in need.

We appreciate your time to complete the necessary paperwork ( to help keep our NYA program and Neighbors in Need program delivering the highest quality care.

My sincere thanks to you for your commitment to our guests.  You are truly making a difference in their lives.

Sincerely;

Theresa Greco
